Shortly after starting our rabbitry journey, I stumbled across the concept of colony keeping versus traditional cage keeping—and after digging into the research, I was hooked.

Colony raising isn’t just a trend; it’s actually the most natural way to keep rabbits. In fact, this method dates all the way back to the Roman era, when rabbits were first domesticated as livestock. Rabbits are social by design, thriving in groups and building communities much like the ones you might picture from Watership Down—minus the trauma.

Now, I’ll be the first to say that no two rabbitries are the same. Not everyone has the space, setup, or desire to raise rabbits in a colony. That’s okay. But for those curious about giving their rabbits a more natural, instinct-driven environment, this approach can be a game-changer.

That’s why I created this guide. It’s not filled with fluff or unrealistic expectations—it’s 100 pages of practical, no-nonsense advice drawn from my own experience and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Whether you’re just getting started with rabbits or you’ve been raising them for a while but can’t quite get colony life to “click,” this guide is designed to help you troubleshoot, adapt, and set yourself (and your rabbits) up for success.
